The fixture promised to be a stern test for the home side. Carnegie started brightly, immediately signalling their intent. The first half was evenly contested, with both sides sharing possession and creating chances, but neither able to find a breakthrough. It was end-to-end action, with Carnegie’s defence moving the ball well across the backline, maintaining composure and searching for openings to drive forward.

With the score level at 0–0 at half-time, Carnegie came out strongly in the second half and were rewarded with a series of penalty corners. However, the Glasgow University goalkeeper produced a number of saves to keep the hosts at bay. Momentum then shifted as the visitors earned several penalty corners of their own in quick succession. Carnegie’s defence stood firm under pressure, producing a series of composed and disciplined defensive efforts to keep the game goalless.

As frustration began to creep into the Glasgow University ranks, Carnegie capitalised. A penalty corner in the final quarter proved decisive: Emma Mathie’s powerful drag flick was saved high, but the rebound fell kindly to striker Kerry Jackson, who showed great skill to fire home a reverse strike into the backboard. Carnegie managed the closing stages of the game well, retaining possession and seeing out a hard-fought 1–0 victory.

Defender Claire Stirling was named MVP for her outstanding performance, marked by crucial interceptions and excellent distribution from the back.

The result means Carnegie have taken a maximum nine points from their opening three fixtures in the second half of the season, climbing the table with two games remaining. They travel to face Dundee University next Saturday in what promises to be another exciting contest.

Ladies 2s

The ladies 2s played Borders on Saturday 21st March. The game started off tough with both teams trying hard to get an early goal, very quickly into the first quarter Gemma Hobbs was in the perfect position to smash the ball into the bottom corner of Haddington’s goal. With Carnegie 1-0 up, Haddington were eager to get a goal into Carnegie’s net, however, Louise the GK was sharp and able to make many good saves, leaving Haddington goalless by the end of the first quarter.

Into the second quarter the fight was still being put on, Carnegie again were very lucky with a couple of good shots with one from our Captain Caz at the edge of the D, and another from Lily Stewart shortly after, after sliding her way through the defenders and making it 3-0 by half time.

Onto the third quarter and both teams trying equally as hard. With both teams receiving a fair amount of short corners, Carnegie managed to clear the ball away from the D.
