Ladies 3s narrow defeat to Inverleith

Dunfermline Carnegie ladies 3s played Inverleith ladies 3s on Saturday 2nd October at home on a changeable autumnal afternoon.  Inverleith started play with pass back which was evenly matched by both teams in the first half.  Both teams were able to counter strongly and both had a strong defensive press.  Inverleith had a short lived celebration of a goal which was disallowed after one of the umpire’s challenged the goal after spotting contact of the ball on an Inverleith player’s foot.  Carnegie had two close goal scoring chances but were unable to get the ball over the line. Carnegie’s defence worked hard together and denied Inverleith goal scoring chances from corners with some good saves from the Carnegie GK, Sarah Deighan.

First half score 0-0

The second half saw quick pace and strong long passing from Inverleith’s defensive 16 penetrating Carnegie’s press to assert pressure on Carnegie’s defence who worked determinedly together.  Carnegie’s sweeper had a couple of good strong runs through Inverleith’s forwards and midfield up the right hand side line to bring the ball up into Carnegie’s attacking half. Inverleith were able to counter and won several short corners.  Despite a magnificent save from Carnegie’s goalie on a short corner, Inverleith were able to claim a goal following an unfortunate deflection off a Carnegie defender’s stick. Carnegie continued to work hard for each other until the final whistle concluded 0-1 defeat.

Carnegie’s Most Valued Player was awarded to GK, Sarah Deighan,
