Spooktacular Results for Ladies Teams

Ladies 1s

Carnegie Ladies 1s played GHK on the 31st October. GHK set a fast pace but Carnegie matched it, quickly getting a goal from a short corner early in the first quarter. The drag flick from Emma Mathie sailed past the keeper securing Carnegie’s first goal.

In the second quarter an open play goal was scored by Ciara Wilkie, from a reverse shot past the goalie after a skilful run into the D.

In the third quarter there were two open play goals, one scored with a lovely deflection by Heidi Cameron, and another with a reverse from Mercedes Black. GHK managed to maintain some pressure however, and got one goal back in the last quarter to make the game end as a 4-1 win to Carnegie.

MVP was Becca Atkins for her commanding role in defence and her great read of the game.

Ladies 2s Cup

Dunfermline Carnegie 2s made the road trip west to play Glasgow Uni 6s in the rearranged District Cup fixture on Sunday 1st November

After some communication issues the game got underway with a late start and reduced time, meaning two 20 minute halves would decide the team progressing to the next round.

This quickly became another game where the Carnegie defence was put under pressure and some excellent play and control kept them in the game. Carnegie are getting plenty of short corner experience and so far they are proving very effective in defending set pieces and turning them into an attacking play. Carnegie worked the ball well when attacking, using clever passing and stick control to advance up the pitch. An intercepted pass was quickly run towards the Uni goal with the shot pinging off the post. The first half ended 0-0.

The second half saw more pressure on the Carnegie defence but they covered well and prevented Glasgow Uni from making too many shots on goal, and late on a very close range effort was cleared by the keeper. The last 5 minutes saw a flurry of short corners on the Carnegie defence, who once again dealt with them cleanly, keeping a clean sheet to the final whistle.

As it was a cup game, penalties were needed to decide the winner. Winning the coin toss Carnegie chose to defend the first penalty. Carnegie’s keeper saved three of the Uni shots, with one being sent wide of the post. Carnegie scored their first two goals with great strikes, which sent Carnegie to the next round of the cup.

MVPs went to Ellie Ralph’s role in defence and Aimee McKenzie for running and great play in midfield.
