Notable club members who have been inducted into our hall of fame

Duncan Griffiths

2025

Duncan was a club member for over forty years and had great influence both on and off the pitch, as a player, team captain and umpire. Duncan first joined the club as far back as 1979, initially as a goalkeeper. As captain of the men’s 2nd team, he led them to the Reserve Cup Final in 1986.

When he stepped away from playing, Duncan took to umpiring for the Men’s Devs. I understand getting his umpiring qualification is one of Spud’s finest achievements.

Duncan also got involved in the administrative side of the club and held various roles, culminating in a six-year period as President, including the Covid years. Duncan’s influence can be felt across the club and he leaves us with great memories and a legacy that will live on for years to come.

Gordon has dedicated his non-work life to the organising and running of the club, ensuring that it has progressed and developed into what we are today. His reach stretches far beyond what is visible to most of us, Driven by his love for the sport and the club, the various roles he has undertaken over the years have provided a source of endless enjoyment for him. His influence and understanding of the intricate workings of the club cannot be under-estimated and will likely never be replicated again in the future

Shelia Duncan

Sheila has been a stalwart of the ladies club for over 35 years. During this time, she has taken almost every role in the club, from outdoor and indoor team captains, ladies club captain, social convenor, vice president and club president.

Her playing career is highly decorated, playing in district and national league. She has contributed to her team winning many east division 1 titles, being promoted to the national league and was part of the squad that saw the ladies 1’s being promoted to National Division 1 in 1999/2000.

She helped her team to victory in the district plate and was in the squad that won the district cup for four out of five consecutive years. She also played a big part on the team winning the national league plate in 2001.

In more recent times, she has played for the Scottish Masters, being consistently selected throughout 2013 to 2022. Over the years, she has enjoyed many Euros and Home Nations tournaments, however a highlight was securing a silver medal in South Africa in 2022.

Keith Forster

2025

Keith joined the club in the mid-70s from Rosyth Civil Service alongside Harry Phillips and Joe da Costa. He went straight into the 1st eleven as a central midfielder and the penalty flick taker. His unique style of taking them involved staring at the goalkeeper, for what felt like five minutes, before dispatching the ball into the back of the net. Keith dropped down to the 2nd eleven, taking over the captaincy and leading them to a number of successful seasons.

It was in the early 90s that the SHU started to encourage clubs to set up youth policies. Keith embraced this, alongside Keith Rapley and Jimmy Stark, and long with the help of Margaret Brown, a hockey playing teacher at Dunfermline High School, started coaching sessions on Sunday mornings, using the school facilities. Keith oversaw the expansion of the youth programme along with Gordon, forming it into the success that continues to this day.

We have had various phases of success with the youth programme – almost all of the men’s first team have come through the programme at various phases, and Keith’s charges dominated initially in East District youth leagues before taking over Midlands competitions prior to Covid. Keith’s legacy is felt through the entire club, from the ladies first XI through to the young leaders currently assisting in running our youth programme
