Ladies 2s

Dunfermline Carnegie Ladies 2s double header weekend culminated with a Sunday cup game at home.

Edinburgh Uni 4s, who play 2 leagues above Carnegie in the east division were the visitors and the favourites to win, but Carnegie didn’t make it too easy for them. Uni 4s were a skilful team and wasted no time in attacking the Carnegie defence. Despite the relentless pressure, Carnegie battled away and created a few attacking plays of their own, which Uni 4s quickly closed down. The Uni 4s scored their first goal from open play. They added a second soon after from a short corner. Carnegie successfully defended 2 further short corners and closed the first quarter 3-0 down.

A further 2 goals in the 2nd quarter, one being an unfortunate deflection sending the ball in to the right hand corner of the Carnegie goal, ended the first half 5-0 down.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, with repeated attacks from Uni 4s and short attacking breaks by Carnegie turned over and the ball sent back towards the Carnegie goal. A Carnegie attack saw Jodie Hood beat the Uni 4s keeper only for their defender to clear it away from the goal at the last second.

Throughout the game Carnegie were called to defend numerous short corners, with the majority being well defended by quick running out, good positioning and effective clearances, but with Uni 4s attacking in numbers and opening up free players in the D they increased their lead further. The Carnegie defence were kept busy throughout the game, with some excellent play and supported by their midfields and forwards in a whole team effort.

The final score was 9-0 to Edinburgh Uni 4s, but Carnegie L2s should be proud of how they never gave up and in particular their short corner play, which definitely kept the score in single figures.

MVP was awarded to Natalie Raverty for her superb work in defence and prevented the opposition from further goal scoring opportunities.
